Holiday Cover Photo Contest

That would be holiday photos as in Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and New Year’s photos - from this year or past years.
Our deadline is Friday, Dec. 15, with publication of the winner and runners-up scheduled for the Saturday, Dec. 23, edition of Richardson Neighbors.
You may submit as many photos as you wish and we’ll consider running them, especially if you have a package from a school, church or community fall festival. But only one photograph, identified by the photographer, may be submitted as a cover contest entry.

Here’s what we need from you to be considered for our holiday contest cover:
Format and file size required is JPG of about 2 MB or greater, around 300 dpi, e-mailed or dropped off at our office on a CD. Prints will be accepted as well – we’ll scan them.
Caption information, which must include the who, what, when, where and other circumstances or interesting details of the photo.
Photographer’s name, e-mail address and phone number must be included.
Specify with entry that the photo submission is for Neighbors holiday cover contest.

The deadline for contest submissions is noon Friday, Dec. 15.

North Texas economy status

The program “The North Texas economy: A look back at 2006” by Huntley Paton, the Dallas Business Journal publisher, will be presented 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Richardson Hotel, 701 E. Campbell Road.
The North Texas economy has been strong in 2006, but some economists still report mixed reviews. Paton will offer his unique perspective and provide highlights of 2006 and some thoughts about the region’s economy for 2007.
The deadline to register and receive the early bird price is three days prior to the event. After the deadline, there is a $10 surcharge.

Traffic construction tips

City of Richardson traffic construction tips for the week of Monday, Dec. 11.
Arapaho Road from Mimosa Drive to Floyd Road –The project includes pavement repair, barrier free ramps, sidewalks, retaining walls, drainage improvements, landscaping plantings as well as new landscape irrigation systems. Expect up to two directional traffic lanes to be temporarily blocked from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. The project should be completed by March of 2007.
Yale Boulevard - This project includes full depth concrete pavement repairs on Yale Boulevard from Belt Line Road to Chestnut Hill Lane. In addition, sidewalks, residential driveway approaches, wheelchair ramps and median pavement will be repaired. Construction should be completed by March of 2007. A traffic lane will be temporarily blocked at a time as needed as the work progresses along this corridor.
North Star Road north of Renner Road – The south-bound curb lane of North Star Road between Renner Road and Bradshaw Drive will be temporarily closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays until early December because of driveway construction.
