The University of Texas at Dallas Community Chorale seeks adult singers from the communities of Richardson, Dallas, Plano and Garland and surrounding areas to perform musical masterworks “with an emphasis on stress-free, beautiful singing.” The chorale, which is free to community members, will perform choral music from the British Isles for the Spring Arts Festival. Henry Purcell’s “Te Deum and Jubilate Deo”, accompanied by orchestra, will anchor the program.
No auditions are necessary for the Community Chorale, but basic music, pitch matching and singing skills are desired. Rehearsals for community members are scheduled to begin at 7 to 9:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in Jonsson Performance Hall.
Rehearsals will continue each week, except for spring break, March 5, until the Spring Arts Festival concert in the evening of Saturday, April 21.
For more information or to sign up, contact Hoyt Neal at hoyt.neal@utdallas.edu or 972-380-0867, or see the Web site http://ah.utdallas.edu/UTDlinks/UTDchorale/index.html.

The murder in the library mystery play Death Knocks a Homer, a Richardson entertainment staple for the last 14 years, will be held tonight at the Richardson Public Library, 900 Civic Center Drive.
The event benefits the Richardson Adult Literacy Center. City Manager Bill Keffler will be the celebrity star of this year’s event. Playwright Robin McGee, of the Murder Mystery Players, is noted for crafting the script to compliment the local star.
Previous productions included Judge Ray Noah in the Elvis wig, singing police chief Larry Zacharias and Mayor Gary Slagel.
Tickets are $50 and are currently on sale at the library.
The Richardson Adult Literacy Center’s volunteers provide English as a Second Language instruction for beginning students, conversation classes for intermediate students and referrals for those who do not live in Richardson or the RISD.

Ursula Peters of Richardson enjoyed some very special moments with her sponsored child, Ana, a 15-year-old Mexican girl, during a recent study tour hosted by the Christian Children’s Fund. See the story in this week's Richardson Neighbors.
