Cowboy poet coming to town

Cowboy poet Gene Perkins will recite his original literary works at the Richardson Central Rotary Club meeting at noon Friday at the Richardson Hotel, 701 E. Campbell Road. For more information, call Richard Gilman at 972-690-0637.

UTD blues and jazz fest

The first ever Blues and Jazz Festival, a vision of the late Larry Terry, a popular administrator at The University of Texas at Dallas, is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26 and 27, at the school's Richardson campus.
The event will include a concert by famed saxophone player Leroy “Hog” Cooper, a theatrical performance, lectures and a panel discussion.
All proceeds will be donated to the Larry D. Terry Emerging Leaders Scholarship Endowment. Larry Terry, whose father was noted jazz and blues songwriter and guitarist Verbie Gene “Flash” Terry, was vice president of business affairs when he died in June.
Tickets are $20 for a Friday lecture and concert, $25 for a Saturday lecture and concert, and $40 for both events. Tickets are $5 per event for UTD students.
Ticket office hours for advance purchase are from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

'Midsummer Night's Dream'

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with music by Felix Mendelssohn, will be performed by the Plano Symphony Orchestra 8:15 p.m. Saturday at the Charles W. Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive.
Prior to this famous story coming to life, participants can enjoy the mesmerizing romance of both Gounod’s and Tchaikovsky’s interpretations of Romeo & Juliet.
The guest artist is Canadian actress Maureen Thomas, who has had an extensive theatre career.
Tickets range from $9 to $70 and can be purchased by calling the PSO ticket office at 972-473-7262. At the door, add $2 to the cost.

Dartmouth carnival

The Dartmouth Elementary annual PTA Carnival is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the school, 417 Dartmouth Lane.
Carnival activities include a crazy hat shop, a light-up shop, jewelry and more. Proceeds will be used for support and enhance the learning of Dartmouth students.
