Pastor Jon says goodbye

Pastor Jon Lee’s final worship service as King of Glory Lutheran senior pastor will be Sunday. The festival service will be held at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center at 9 a.m. with organ music, choirs and trumpets. A reception will follow.

Pearce swimmers moving on

This submission from Donna Mullins:
The boys and girls swim and dive team from J.J. Pearce High School competed in the District 12-4A Championships on Jan. 19 at Highland Park High School natatorium. The boys team placed first and is sending 13 qualifiers on to the regional meet. The girls team placed second and is sending 12 qualifiers on to regionals.
Nick Kalivas and Caroline Maxvill were named District Athletes of the meet. Nick was on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays and won both the 50 free and 100 butterfly events. Caroline swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. She also won the 200 individual medley and 100 breast stroke.
Regional championships will be held Feb. 1-3 at Southlake Carroll Aquatic Center, 1501 W. Southlake Blvd., Southlake. Diving will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, with swimming prelims beginning at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 2. Finals will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3. There will be a charge of $4 for prelims and $5 for finals for adults, $2 for prelims and $3 for finals for students.

'Prison Break' actor in hot seat

It's been nearly two months since the tragic Dec. 2 crash involving Lane Garrison, the up-and-coming actor who graduated from Richardson's Pearce High School. Which means that any day now, he could be charged, as The Los Angeles Times reported that the crash investigation would take "8 weeks." In the meantime, celebrity gossip site TMZ has been posting regular updates on the case, including video of an earlier crash involving Garrison.

Children's Choir strikes a chord

Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church hosted a packed house for the touring African Children's Choir, about two dozen energetic, warm and friendly ambassadors of the nation of Uganda, on a recent Friday night.
The choir is made up children ages 6 to 11 who sing and dance to help raise education funds for thousands of African children.
Other local concerts are scheduled for:
First United Methodist Church Richardson, 534 W. Belt Line Road, 8:45, 9:45 and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28.
Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd., 9:30 and 11 a.m. Feb. 11.
First Baptist Church Hamilton Park, 300 E. Phillips St., Richardson, 6 p.m. Feb.11.
