A visit this afternoon from former frequent, now occasional contributor Laura Perkins Cox of Garland, whose kids attend schools in Richardson and Lake Highlands, reminded us of this weekend's Mochitsuki New Year's Celebration at Fujitsu Network Communications in Richardson. It was Laura's story and terrific photos of last year's festival - one of which you can that alerted us to this little gem - and forced us to learn how to spell M-o-c-h-i-t-s-u-k-i.
(Mochitsuki is the pounding of Japanese sweet rice to make rice cakes).
The festival, sponsored by the Japan-America Society of the Dallas area was canceled in January due to bad weather, giving us a second chance from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. I'll be the one wearing the bright blue Neighbors T-shirt. No, NOT really.

My iTunes playlist represents a strong Andrew Lloyd Webber presence, including Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera, What's the Buzz from Jesus Christ Superstar, and the list goes on.
Despite my Lloyd Webber obsession, and desire to sing and dance at all possible moments, I have yet to experience what is probably his most popular musical, CATS.

The Richardson High School fine arts program will finally allow me to see what all the CATS hype is about at a performance 2 p.m. Sunday in the high school's auditorium.
Come experience Rum Tug Tugger, Bustopher Jones and the Jellicle Cats with me this Sunday or at the 7:30 p.m. performances tonight and Saturday. Yes, I’m (however vaguely) aware of the Super Bowl, but there will be plenty of time to get home for kick-off after the Sunday show.
For more information on the show and tickets, visit www.rhstheatre.org.

Courtney Murphy of Richardson, a.k.a. "Athena Monster", is a skater on a roll with a local women's roller derby league. Read about her - and see the photos - in the Editor's Note of this Saturday's Richardson Neighbors.
