Sweet Rice! It's Mochitsuki

The Japan-America Society Mochitsuki New Year's Celebration, canceled in January due to bad weather, has been rescheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the cafeteria of Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., located at 2801 Telecom Parkway in Richardson. Admission to the event is $5 and free for children age 12 and under.

The festival will include live Japanese performances by Dallas Kiyari Daiko drummers, Cherry Blossom Chorus children’s choir, Tapioka teen girls’ band, and Yosakoi Dancers with lively folk dancing.
Other Japanese activities include kakizome, the first calligraphy of the New Year, New Year’s games for children, and cultural displays.
Guests can also sample green tea with anko (sweet bean paste), kinako (roasted soy bean powder) or nori (seaweed wrap with soy sauce).
The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth is a non-profit organization founded in 1970 to foster U.S.-Japan relations in the metroplex through business, cultural and educational programs.
