Brothers on a mission

Jonathan and James Kershaw, twin brothers who attended Berkner High School, will serve a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from January 2007 to January 2009 in Brazil.

Jonathan will go to the Brazil Campinas Mission and James will go to the Brazil Belo Horizonte East Mission, which are hundreds of miles apart. The brothers will be enrolled in an extensive, two-month course to study the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture at Sao Paulo Brazil Missionary Training Center.
Both brothers are in the top 1 percent of their high school graduating class and received full tuition scholarships to Brigham Young University.

Boot Scoot 'n' BBQ

The Westwood Junior High Boot Scoot ’n’ BBQ dinner, auction and student dance will be held Friday. A catered family dinner by Red Hot & Blue will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Advanced ticket sales are available through the PTA only. The auction will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and student dance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Habitat Gala

The Habitat for Humanity of South Collin County’s Building Foundations Building Lives Gala will be held 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 10, at Marriott Legacy Town Center, 7120 Dallas Parkway in Plano.
The evening begins with a champagne reception and gourmet dinner. The Rodney Booth Band will perform. Live and silent auctions will be held, with notable items including hotel stays in London, Hawaii, Houston and New York, sports memorabilia, wine and a puppy.
Jeff Brady of Channel 8 News is the honorary chair.
Cost for the black tie optional event is $125. Funds raised last year went toward the affiliate’s general operation and three builds.

This just in from Forestridge

Forestridge Elementary students will perform their annual PE program at Liberty Junior High School at 7 p.m. Feb. 8.
Four hundred and forty students will be performing along with twenty wonderful teachers in the show's finale, writes Staci Low, assistant principal. The theme for the program is "Motown Magic" and features songs by artists such as The Temptations, The Four Tops, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, and Martha Reeve.
The program, which is under the direction of PE teachers Terry Taylor and Heidi Rodriguez, will be in the large gym. Seating is limited.
