Highlandettes Spring Revue

The Lake Highlands High School Highlandettes, celebrating their 45th year of performing, will present their traditional Spring Revue at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17, in the high school auditorium, 9449 Church Road.

This year’s show, entitled “Think Pink”, features a salute to influential women with each performance showcasing an area where women have made a significant contribution. Also, as a special salute to breast cancer survivors, representatives of the Susan G, Komen Foundation will attend each night as special guests of the Highlandettes.
This February’s show marks the debut of the 2007 rookie class, which will take its place on the football field next fall. Avout 100 neighborhood girls from kindergarten to sixth grade that participated in “Dancing With the Dettes”, a daylong dance clinic held for the first time ever this past January, will perform both nights.
Tickets are $10 for reserved and $8 for general admission, and may be purchased at the door or email Susan Solomon sweybridge@sbcglobal.net.

All about 'Glitz, Glamour and Gold'

Ebby and Amy Ghoreishi, left, and Jana and Steve Steglich, Lake Highlands Elementary parents, attend the school’s auction.

Almost 300 guests filled Park Lane Ranch for the Lake Highlands Elementary “Glitz, Glamour and Gold” auction, correspondent J.J. Pair wrote for an upcoming edition of Richardson Neighbors.
The event, a first for the elementary PTA, raised more than $20,000 for classroom LCD multimedia projectors.
When guests arrived, they headed for silent auction tables and began bidding.

Favorites at the Jan. 19 event included contributions from LHE teachers such as juggling lessons with bilingual instructor Edgar Beltran, a manicure and pedicure with vice principal Ana Garcia, private rocketry lessons from the science teachers, and sitting in the dugout for an LHHS softball game with coach Kim Kromdyk. The first-grade teachers contributed tea for two in the home of Jennifer Ross and an after-school video game party with James Creech.
Class pizza parties, ice cream parties and private breakfasts with special teachers drew stiff competition, as did winning the opportunity to be an honorary uniform fairy, copy room queen, fire marshal or principal for a day. And some guests received instant gratification if they won items such as custom-made jewelry by Adelle Read and Rhonda Clifford, Nordstrom’s piggy banks, Camerata Winds concert tickets and autographed footballs.
Between bidding, guests enjoyed dining by candlelight at the beautifully decorated tables featuring black and gold cloths and giant gold stars. Several teachers said they thought they’d only visit briefly but stayed until the party ended because they were having so much fun.
The live auction brought many popular items, including airline tickets, Mavericks tickets behind the bench, a Roger Staubach-signed football and tickets to American Idol and David Letterman.
“I loved the fact that we had so many people attend that do not have children at our school, several ex-teachers and older neighborhood folks, as well as several parents whose kids will be attending LHE next year,” said Noel Walling, PTA president and auction organizer. “It showed what a great community we have and what a big part LHE plays in our community.”
The evening’s highlight came when State Rep. Bill Keffer, moonlighting with the band, presented principal Kim Sullivan with a flag flown in Austin to honor LHE’s 50th anniversary.

JJ Pair is a Lake Highlands Elementary spokeswoman and regular Neighbors contributor.
